Jonathan Alan is playing Horizon Zero Dawn…A LOT. Here’s what he’s saying:
Who is the main character in your view?
Aloy (pronounced AY-LOY). She is the typical outcast turned hero but with surprising depth and a twist that alloys her to become a unique character. She will be the next PlayStation icon.
What is the best aspect of the Horizon Zero Dawn game world?
The story. I was intrigued when I first heard of a post apocalyptic world where robot dinosaurs roam the lands. Finding bits and pieces about the fall of our world that lead to this robot jurassic park kept me interested throughout the entire campaign.
When did you make your judgement of the game’s overall quality? What were your considerations?
I made it about halfway through the game. Sadly I find it very easy to stop playing open world games about halfway through them. By the halfway point you know what the rest of the game is going to be like. But by the 20 hour mark I was still in awe of what I was discovering and encouraged to play till the end to find out the rest of the story.
Where is your favorite area to explore?
The best place to explore were the ruins. These ruins give hints on what happened to the world prior to the fall. It is a great juxtaposition of the “metal world” and the natural that you currently live in.
Why did the game appeal to you? What drove your purchase?
I bought this game because I was interested in a new IP from Guerrilla. Them switching from FPS genre to 3rd person open world was enough for me to give it a chance.
How will the game affect the genre of open world? Will it have impact?
I don’t know if it will make a impact in open world gaming. It doesn’t push the envelope of what this genre is but instead takes the best parts of open world games and perfects them. What it will make an impact on is diversity in games. There are people from every walk in life and helps the world feel more fleshed out.
